Home > Disasters

Many forms of disasters occur in Queensland and each requires a different strategy to prepare for and combat the onslaught of the event.

This section defines the different categories of disaster events and the conditions under which they occur.

Some areas are more vulnerable to certain forms of disasters, however, freak incidents like floods and earthquakes have been known to strike communities that have long been considered stable environments.

Knowing how to read the signs and be aware of disaster warnings will ensure you are better prepared when disaster strikes.

Important steps should be taken before, during and after any disaster to help reduce potential loss of life and property damage. This knowledge will help you to remain calm and take positive, effective steps towards protecting yourself and your family.

Use the Disasters menu on the left to explore various disaster information pages.
