Weather update

The SES Hotline received 60 calls overnight for assistance and advice following more heavy rain throughout south east Queensland.

From 5pm yesterday SES attended 20 jobs in Brisbane Region, the North Coast Region and Toowoomba. These jobs were mostly temporary roof repairs and sandbag jobs.

The SES in the Glasshouse Mountains are currently attending a number of jobs, also relating to roof repairs.

Queensland Fire and Rescue Service have attended multiple incidents overnight where vehicles were driven into rising floodwaters. Fortunately, in all these cases the motorists had safely removed themselves from the vehicle by the time firefighters arrived at the scene.

These include:
• 8pm, Neurum Rd Neurum
• 10pm, Mary Smokes Creek Rd, at Royston
• 3.30am Melton Rd, Nundah
• 4.30am, Paradise Rd, Larapinta
• 6.15am Commissioners Flat Rd, Peachester
• Midnight, Old Gympie Rd, Glass House Mountains
• 5am Dairy Creek Rd, Waterford
• 7am Old Gympie Rd and Pykes Rd, Beerwah.

A Severe Weather Warning is current from Noosa to the New South Wales border.

The Bureau of Meteorology advises that during the next 24 to 48 hours, further creek and river rises causing flooding are likely throughout South East Queensland from Noosa to the Queensland-New South Wales border and extending inland to the ranges.

A Strong Wind Warning has been issued for Double Island Point to Point Danger, including Moreton Bay.













Ten lives have been lost in Queensland during flooding events in recent months and Emergency Management Queensland (EMQ) urges pedestrians and motorists not to risk their lives by taking chances with floodwaters. EMQ advises that people should take every measure to be safe by:
• Not driving, walking or riding through flood waters;
• Being aware of fallen trees and powerlines and reporting fallen powerlines to Energex immediately on 13 62 62;
• If near the coastline, staying well away from the water's edge; and
• For storm-related assistance from the SES contact 132 500, for life-threatening emergencies dial triple zero (000).
